Copies of police reports are generally available within 3 business days of the incident or accident. A records request form will need to be completed and some fees will apply. Please have as much information as possible available (date, type of incident, incident report number, etc.) when making your request. The records office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00 pm; please contact the records clerks at 970-641-8254 if you have any questions.
Local background checks are available through the records office. These checks will include police contacts for adults based on name and date of birth. A signed records release form and a $5.00 fee will be required. These checks will only include Gunnison Police Department records and will not contain records information from any other agencies.
Adult criminal history information is considered an open record in Colorado. A local background check of an adult’s criminal history can be obtained as long as that person’s complete name and date of birth are provided. The person making the request will need to sign a records release form and a 5.00 fee will apply.
The police department does not maintain court records. Individuals requesting court disposition information will need to contact the appropriate court. The court clerk for Gunnison Municipal Court may be contacted at 970-641-8170; the court clerk for Gunnison Combined Courts may be contacted at 970-641-3500.
Colorado driver’s history information is available through Colorado Department of Revenue, Division of Motor Vehicles. Certified driving records are available at Driver Services, 1881 Pierce, Lakewood, Colorado. This process takes 10 to 14 business days and some fees may apply. Please contact Department of Revenue at www.revenue.state.co.us or your local driver’s license office for more information.
Adult arrest history information is available to the public through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation – please see www.cbirecordscheck.com for more information.
The Gunnison Police Department maintains a list of registered sex offenders living in the City of Gunnison. Copies of this list are available to the public, free of charge. A signed request form will be required. Please contact the records office during business hours if you would like a copy of the sex offender registration list.
The police department provides fingerprinting services for civilians Monday through Friday during business hours. Fingerprinting services are available based on officer availability - a valid ID and a $10.00 fee will be required.
Neighborhood Services can return the property to you at the police department or if you live out of town it can be sent cost on delivery.
The Gunnison Police Department has a secure facility which is available to students free of charge. Access to the facility is limited to Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Municipal Building.
You can come to the police department with your bicycle and obtain a registration free of charge.
VIN inspections are available Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. An officer can respond to your residence when the circumstances require.
