Gunnison Police Department Community Resource Officer

The Community Resource Officer (CRO) is responsible for coordinating prevention, safety and other outreach activities and programs in Gunnison. Currently, the core programs provided by the CRO include:

Kindergarten through 4th grade D.A.R.E. program
5th grade core D.A.R.E. Program
Project ALERT in the 7th and 8th grades
Assisting High School groups with their prevention activities including; health classes, Student Leadership and the Courage to Live group
STEP for teens classes (systematic training for effective parenting)
Coordinating Safe Ride of Gunnison, Inc., a free tipsy taxi service
Education on correct use of child safety seat checks and distributing low cost seats for underserved families
Coffee With a Cop; an outreach program at WSC
Moral Recognition Therapy (MRT)
Social Responsibility Training (SRT)

In addition to these activities, the Gunnison Police Department works with other groups and agencies to promote safety and prevention. Through The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) grant funding we have helped the RE1J School District, the local Partners organization and WSC with health and prevention activities, classes, and positive alternative activities.

Gunnison Police Department officers also take part in programs with the Gunnison community including the Good Neighbor program, WSC Resident Life staff training, orientation programming and safety presentations for the resident halls. Prevention partners with the Police Department include:
