The Gunnison Volunteer Fire Department is a full service fire department that functions with 40 volunteers and provides fire & rescue coverage throughout Gunnison County and parts of Saguache County, with the only exclusion being the Crested Butte Fire Protection District. The Gunnison Fire Protection District service area is 3,300 square miles. The G.V.F.D. provides fire suppression for structural & wildland fires as well as rescue service for vehicles & structures. Fire safety education, fire investigations & inspections are handled through the Fire Marshall's office.
